MUSIC AND SACRED ARTS AT CATALINA

For over 50 years, music has been the heart and soul of worship at Catalina.  We are blessed with exceptional leadership and many talented instrumental musicians and singers who make music a central part of our ministry to the people of Tucson.  The acoustics in our sanctuary are exceptional for music, and througout the year it is used for concerts by various choral groups in our community.  Our Reuter 3-manual pipe organ is one of the finest instruments in the city and makes worship in our sanctuary an unforgettable experience.  Our music program is directed by Dr. Jonathan Ng, a graduate of Westminster Choir College and the University of Indiana.

Sanctuary Choir
/files/Worship and Music/choir-2004_Resized_300x241.jpgThe Sanctuary Choir of 70 musicians is the backbone of our 11:00 Worship Service.  The third Sunday of each month is "Music Emphasis Sunday" and features the choir accompanied by the pipe organ and one or more of our instrumentalists:  the Brass Ensemble, the Festival Bell Choir, harp, flute, oboe, and cello among other instruments.  The choir presents two special musical works each year with orchestra and has made several tours of Europe.  The choir sang at Carnegie Hall on Tuesday, May 22, 2007.  While the choir is very skilled, they sing to praise God and present the love of Jesus in their music.

On Sunday, December 9, at 4:30 p.m., the Sanctuary Choir will join the other choirs and musical groups in their Christmas program, "An Evening in December."

The choir sings September through May and rehearses at 7:00 p.m. Thursdays in the Music Room H27 (The building immediately behind the Sanctuary).  The choir is open to all adults who like to sing.  An ensemble from the choir, sings on the first and third Sundays of the month in the 9:30 traditional service in the sanctuary.

 Festival Ringers Bell Choir
The Festival Ringers, open to all youth and adults, play regularly in worship from September through May.  They rehearse on Wednesday evenings at 5:15 p.m. in the Sanctuary.
