SUPER BOWL PARTY
THIS SUNDAY!
Watch the big game on the big screen with your
pals and enjoy some snacks! This will be our youth group meeting for this
week. Hey! Bring a friend or two with you. This will be a great opportunity
to give a friend a positive introduction to our youth group.
Here are the details:
Meet in Fellowship Hall (if we can't get TV
reception, we will move to the youth room).
The party will begin at 3:30 and we end at
8pm. Although we will be mostly hanging out, this does not mean you can
come and go as you please. Once you come to the party, you are our responsibility,
and if you plan to leave before the end, you will need parental permission.
So, help us out with that. We will have additional activities going at
different times, so you can move between activities and locations, but
all will be supervised. For example, we will have the volleyball net up
and you can play while it is light. We will have some board games (you
can bring your own) at some tables at the rear of the room.
We will probably spend a lot of money on food, so I will have the donation
basket out just like we do every week at dinner and hope for $2 donation
per person. If you bring a friend, pay their way.
By the way, if some of you parents want to
come to the party and help out, you are VERY WELCOME!!!
MISSIONS TRIP DEADLINE
Remember, your registration form for the missions trip is due this
Sunday at the latest. I have to give Youthworks a final number by Feb.
1, so if you forget, there is no second chance. This form is in the mailing
I sent those who signed up for the trip.
READREADREADREADREAD
Please understand why I send you things in the mail. It is not because
I am part of a worldwide conspiracy to destroy the forests of the world.
It is because this is the main way I intend to get important info to you.
Announcements are not sufficient. They can be forgotten and often can't
be acted on Sunday nights. I don't depend on phone calls, because there
is no way I could call everyone and many would not be home, etc. No, I
figure that putting details in writing and mailing them to your home is
the best way to communicate IMPORTANT info. So please read all letters
from me and read ALL of them. And I would encourage you to read them as
soon as possible. Sometimes DEADLINES are included. Also, please let your
parents read the letters. They need to know most of this stuff, too. Thanks
a lot for your help!!!!

Youth Music
Youth group for Feb. 6 will be held at Hope UMC. Several south district
youth groups are meeting to share their music ministries. Even if you are
not in the choir, we want you to come with us! We will listen to all the
groups, meet new people (and some old friends) from all over the south
district, have some food, etc. We need to leave Catalina at 3:20 and will
return around 7pm. You may meet us at Hope if that is easier for you. WE
NEED DRIVERS! PARENTS, PLEASE HELP!!
PRAYER PAGERS ARE OPERATIONAL!
Each of you should have received a letter with your secret code number
(no, no one has 007) and a card with instructions and request code numbers.
Feel free to page Jodi or me for prayer or conversation any time. If you
lose your card, see Jodi or me, we've got plenty. If you didn't get a letter
with a code number, see me (Richard) and I will fix you up.

How to Find Us
Richard's office is in the office building next to Jonathan's (and you
are welcome) and Jodi's office is in E-21. Stop by, but remember it is
a work in progress.

| LETS START
THINKING ABOUT EASTER!
|
Christmas and Easter are our two biggest times
of the year; and rightly so. They represent two awesome events in the life
of the church and the history of the world: the coming of Christ to the
world and His resurrection from the grave.
This year, I want to make the Lent/Easter
season especially meaningful. I am planning a special Lenten series of
studies for youth group (to be tied with a personal devotional for you
to use daily), and I would like to have a 3 hour mini-retreat for Lent
also.
What will make this complicated, yet also
very meaningful is that Holy Saturday (the Saturday before Easter) is also
Earth Day. We could plan something environmental as part of our retreat
(possibly). And also the traditional sunrise service and pancake breakfast
on Easter Sunday. I will need a lot of help with this. In fact, if some
of you said, "Richard, we will handle that. We'll check the schedule with
you and tell us what you need to do to help." I wouldn't turn you down.
You folks are very involved in ministry and very capable. Let me know your
thoughts on this service. Or better yet, get together and discuss it and
TELL me what we are going to do. I can take orders. Just ask Debbie. You
know, Easter is for middle school students, too.
30 Hour Famine Dates are March
17,18
30 Hour Famine is an opportunity for you and I both to experience hunger
and do something about it. Here's how it works. In advance of the Famine,
I explain it all to you and give you materials provided by World Vision.
Then you go out and get sponsors who will give you money for going without
food for 30 hours. We come to the church, stay overnight, have fun time,
educational opportunities, and do a service project. Then we break our
fast together with a meal. You may be wondering if you can do it (we do
drink water and juice). Talk to Bethany Jones or me. We both have done
it before. Check out the Famine website at
www.30hourfamine.org.

YPC for High School is February 19-21
YPC brochures are available in the youth room. YPC is a statewide gathering
of UMC high school youth. A fun and inspiring time is planned. When we
go to Hope on Feb. 6, YPC will be presented. You can register that night
still at the cheapest rate. Get a brochure and look it over. Shayla Reynolds
is on the YPC Steering Committee if you have any questions. If you go,
you can ride the chartered bus free, but you have to let me know so I can
reserve you a spot. Also, be sure to complete and copy and mail in your
medical release form. Be sure to give me a copy of that form. The health
form should be taken to YPC with you. If you want, you can turn that in
to me and I will take it for you and have it at registration.
Phoenix Suns Game
On Friday, March 10 the Suns are playing the Jazz at America West Arena
at 7pm. I thought it might be fun to go up for the game. Of course this
is very far in advance, but I wanted you to mark your calendars to avoid
any conflicts. We don't want conflicts, do we? Tickets for this event are
quite pricey: $34. But then again, it's not required or anything. It's
just a fun trip for those who can and want to go. Sign up deadline will
need to be February 13. At that time, a $20 deposit will be
due. Available to middle school and high school.
Jr Hi Convention is May 5-7
Jr Hi Convention is like YPC, except it is for middle school students.
Did you figure that one out? It will be held in Kingman and south district
is getting a bus for this one as well.
