| All of us, I think, have recognized to varying degrees that the offerings
of the world do not feed our souls. While paying the bills and keeping
our bodies sheltered and transported is important, what of the soul?
Spiritual living requires life-long practice of no longer seeking value and purpose in things that secure significance and safety. The irony is that the more we lose, the greater the possibility we have for living life joyfully. Joy is the disposition that comes in our realization that God is present to us in the surprises of our lives. Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of learning to live life joyfully is that we learn to see the simple and most common aspects of our existence -- our friends, our spouses, our children -- as sheer gifts to which we have no right, but who are nonetheless blessings to us. Joy is the disposition that comes in our realization that God is present to us in the surprises of our lives. Small groups at Catalina are not encounter groups, support groups or
group counseling. Small Groups are persons seeking to grow their
souls by getting closer to God. I hope you will consider being part
of a small group as a way to continue growing your soul.
