HOW TO JOIN OUR CHURCH

TO JOIN OR NOT TO JOIN?

     Joining makes a statement. It is an act of commitment. And it changes things. It changes how you look at Catalina United Methodist Church. You are now more than a participant; you are a member. Because you belong, you find yourself drawn more deeply into fellowship with all the support and nurture that it brings.
     It changes the church. You bring unique gifts and graces that will make a difference here. As an active member, your ministry touches all of us.

WAYS TO JOIN THE CHURCH

     It's easy to join our church. Simply print and complete the form at the bottom of this page and place it in the collection plate or hand it to the Pastor. Or, just contact one of our pastors. The Pastor will call and set a date to talk with you about joining. Or you can attend our 3-session Catalina 101 class which meets on Sunday mornings. Just indicate your interest and someone will sign you up for the next session.

     You may join the church in one of several ways:


BY PROFESSION OF FAITH AND BAPTISM

If you are not now a baptized Christian, one of our pastors will be happy to discuss the meaning of baptism with you in your home or at the church office. You will be asked to take the vows of membership printed in this brochure.


BY TRANSFER FROM ANOTHER UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

At your request, one of our pastors will get in touch with you. You do not need to write your former church. Our church will handle all the details for you. You will be asked to take the vows of membership printed in this brochure.


BY TRANSFER FROM ANOTHER CHRISTIAN DENOMINATION

At your request, we will write for your letter of membership from your former church. Since you have been baptized, this step will not be repeated. You will be asked to take the vows of membership printed in this brochure.

AFFILIATE OR ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP

     If you are a United Methodist whose membership is in another city or state, and you wish to retain that membership in your "home" church, you may become an Affiliate Member of Catalina UMC. This grants you pastoral oversight fellowship and full participation (including the holding of most church offices) in our church. You will not be counted on the church roll, but will remain on your "home" church's roll. Our pastor will write your church about your affiliate membership at Catalina UMC.
     If you are a member of another denomination, you may elect to become an Associate Member under the same conditions. You will be asked to stand with others joining the church and be recognized as an Associate or Affiliate member.

MEMBERSHIP VOWS

Do you here, in the presence of God and this congregation, renew the solemn promise and vow you made or that was made in your name at your Baptism?
I do.

Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and pledge your allegiance to His Kingdom?
I do.

Do you receive and profess the Christian faith as contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments?
I do.

Do you promise , according to the grace given to you to live a Christian life and always remain a faithful member of Christ's holy Church?
I do.

Will you be loyal to Catalina United Methodist Church and uphold it by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service?
I will.
