Advent is the first season of the
church year; it is a season of preparation for the coming of Christ;
preparation to celebrate Jesus' birth at Christmas. The word Advent
comes from the Latin "adventus", which means
"coming." Advent includes the four weeks, including the four
Sundays, before Christmas Day. It begins on the Sunday falling upon
or nearest Nov. 30.
The color for the season is blue, the color of hope. In the traditional services we will be lighting the candles of the Advent Wreath, one for each Sunday. |
