We, the Catalina Methodist Day School staff, along with all of you parents, are "people makers" as Virginia Satir, a well-known family therapist said. Let us all work together so that our children become physically healthy, mentally alert, feeling, loving, playful, authentic, creative, productive human beings--young people who can stand on their own two feet, who are comfortable with themselves, and realize their specialness.
Living in community each day requires independence. You can help us with this by walking your child in each morning, taking time to say goodbye, "I love you," and to share in a special hug for the day. This can be a short but a very happy ritual for both you and your child.
And finally, let us communicate often. We are, in essence, raising your child in a joint effort. Keep us informed and we will do the same. There will be classroom rules and customs we will ask you to reinforce at home; you will want to share with us some things you are working on at home and ask our cooperation. This is the respectful environment within which children can be best nourished.
