As the Sunday Morning Live service begins its exciting new life as Oasis United Methodist Church, we begin a new contemporary worship service at Catalina this week. What will the new worship service be like? An Integral Part of Catalina Methodist Church - From the very beginning, our new contemporary service will emphasize the health and vitality of the entire church. The worship service will include church-wide announcements. We will participate in a unified fellowship time on Sunday mornings. David Weber and I plan to exchange pulpits about every six weeks or so. I believe that our new worship service will provide an invigorating worship alternative. While our style of worship may be different, we're all sisters and brothers in Christ. We'll seek out ways to nurture our common bonds. A Quality Music Program - We welcome Kathi McKay Stafford as our contemporary worship leader and John Stafford as our band leader. They will be joined by their band, Kathi has been a professional musician since the age of 13. She has performed in over 40 states with various musical artists. John is a successful sound engineer and session guitarist. He has written and recorded with many artists in various styles from jazz to country. Kathi and John have served as worship leaders in various churches. Their first CD, Our approach to music will emphasize congregational participation. Over the next few weeks, a group of praise singers will be formed to encourage our ardent praise of God. The music will be meaningful and connected to the message. Sermons that Touch Our Deepest Needs - Here's my secret to sermon preparation: I tend to preach about issues that we all face in our personal spiritual journeys. I believe that a good sermon should comfort us with God's love and forgiveness. It should also challenge us to grow in our spiritual walk. With God's leadership, I'll do my best to share scriptural insights that help us grow closer to God. Opportunities for You to Play a Part - We're in the process of developing a Worship Design Team for the new contemporary service. If you're interested in playing a role, please get in touch with me. We're very interested in the congregation's desires for a new service. And we're looking for people who would like to play a role in the service. I can barely contain my enthusiasm to get started!
