THE GLORIA TEXT:
in "Gloria" by John Rutter
The text we find in the Gloria is one of the CANTICLES (or songs) found in the Bible. This text is called the Canticle of God's Glory and is found in Luke 2:14. It is the song the angels sang at Jesus' birth and heard by the shepherds. The rest of the text was added during the 3rd or 4th centuries. As you can see it is a very historic text.
Following is the Latin and the common English translations. The corresponding
page number of the Rutter is given so you may write in the translation
if your book does have it already written and if you are not familiar with
it.
